NOSTALGIC - SWATHI MADHAVAN

Life was fairly wonderful when I was in school, which seems like an eternity ago now.

We used to be wonderfully foolish and naive.
We made the most of every day with our buddies.

I was excited to go to school and even more excited to leave.
We used to think that having a friend was all that was required.

Miss those days, which will never return, when shenanigans were commonplace.

We were delinquents, having fun was our transgression, and teachers had to bear the brunt of our mis behaviour.

We snuck out of class to have some fun and perfected the art of jumping over the boundary line.

While remaining silent to allow the teacher to teach.
We kept passing notes around that were within our reach.

For punishment, in an empty hall during class.
For the sake of entertainment, we stood and performed a monologue.

We had a great spot and a unique seat.
We hung around in complete secrecy within the classroom.

We used to blush because we were fresh to love, whether it was puppy love, first love, or just plain crush.

Pages that are blank and a thick school book.
The brief pauses we took inadvertently

All of those memories are resurfacing now.
It was just enough to distract me from my mess.
